Pinterest Tips
1. When you see outfits you like on Pinterest:
Break them down into pieces.
If you use my photos or Pinterest as an example for outfit inspiration you could feel overwhelmed trying to find all of the exact pieces, or immediately think "that won’t work I don’t have any of those things".
But if you break it down piece by piece you might be surprised.
You might not have a pink duster, but you might have a duster, a long jacket, or even a long cardigan.
You might not have the same blanket scarf, but you might have something you love to wear around your neck; a scarf or a necklace.
You might not have the same skinny jeans, but I bet you have jeans!
You may not have black booties, but you probably own a pair of boots or a black pair of shoes.
I saw a photo on Pinterest the other day and I LOVE
D the woman’s outfit, my immediate thought was “I wish I had the things she has so I could re-create the look.”
And then I thought, "what if I do?".
So I went to my workshop (my closet) and I didn’t find a polka dot maxi dress, but I did find a maxi dress that I love to wear, and I didn’t find a studded leather jacket, but I did find a moto-jacket.
I did have the pieces, and I created an outfit I love with what I already have, that works for me.
Try this the next time you see an outfit you love on Pinterest!
2. Trying new styles is one of my favourite things about fashion.
It's also one of the best ways to explore your personal style.
Whenever I’m stuck on how to style something new I just type into Pinterest the item followed by “outfit ideas” and use tip one to create an outfit with what I have.
Examples of this are: "maxi dress outfit ideas" or "flare jeans outfit ideas". And it is best to keep it fairly broad. You don't want to search the exact item "American Eagle floral maxi dress outfit ideas" it's too specific to yield good results.
3. If you want to see more women that look like you when you're looking for outfit inspiration follow me on Pinterest!
I share all different women and style on my inspiration boards so that it's less about our bodies and more about creating an outfit you're excited put on! These boards will also show you how unique and beautiful your personal style can really be, and that you really can wear whatever you want.
