I Am Statements

I know these can be seen as not helpful… However I hope to change your perspective on this today!

I really want you to think about the last time you thought something even as simple as “I am stylish”.

And then think about how you’re feeling about your personal style… do you notice a correlation between the last time you said I am stylish to yourself, and how stylish you feel?

When was the last time you told your self you weren't stylish? or something along the lines of personal style not mattering?

This can especially come up when we are excelling in other areas of our life, even though your wardrobe might be driving you nuts in the background it's easy to push off as something that is not a priority, until one day you're looking at your clothes and you cannot even remotely see the person you are in them and you start questioning everything.

At least that was kind of what happened to me... I was doing everything "right", but it got to a point where I really couldn't see myself anymore. I looked "nice enough", I had a good job, and relationships, but I didn't know who I was beyond all of that. And if you looked at my closet it was like my whole life was being reflected back at me. It's nice, it's good, but it could be anyone's life, these could be anyone's clothes... I wasn't required. I honestly thought I had it all, but I didn't even know who I was anymore.

When we tell ourselves we are not stylish, or that we don’t know what we are doing, or that it doesn't matter, we give our power away and become stuck in a loop of not feeling stylish and not knowing what to do about, and feeling like we have nothing to wear. It becomes even easier to dive into work (making money), activities (to keep you busy), relationships, etc.

I noticed when I started actually thinking and believing "I am stylish" was when I also started discovering who I really was, when I started asking who I am when I strip away everything (the clothes, the job, other people).

This is why I love I am statements or self affirmations. Because they have you acknowledging who you are, and embodying it so that you are expressing your full self in all areas of your life.

I actually found it became easier to do a lot of things, and I was able to do them better and connect on a deeper level whether it was with work, relationships, money, or anything I wanted to really do because I was truly connected to who I was first.

My favourite example of this is really acknowledging the things I really like and acting on them simply because I was able to see the things that I loved, specifically going to a MICHAEL BUBLÉ CONCERT ALONE! (I didn't have to go alone, but I wanted that experience all to myself, because it was me acting on my acknowledgement of something that mattered and felt good to me).

This shows up in my clothes too, I am willing to allow myself to wear whatever I want but I am my guide (not my work, not other people, and not any other outside influence), my inspiration, and myself, which is what makes me feel free to wear whatever I want.

So how can you start changing your life for the absolute best with I am statements?

Write the prompt I am... and just see what comes out, see if anything comes out... this is your starting point. No matter where you are starting is okay, even if you feel they I felt, like you have no idea who you are when you take all the external stuff away.

And then let yourself start noticing all of the things you love about you, and all of the things you love spending time on for you, every day, write them down in a little notebook to keep track.

This might look like you noticing:

I am curious

I am playful

I am fun

I am powerful

I am magical

I am divine

I am adventurous

I am open

I am love

I am beautiful

Every time you notice something about yourself that feels really good to you just take a quick note of it in the form of an I am statement.

Get selfish, and get interested in "who am I?" be curious and playful. Question it all, it's why you were given this life, to expand into everything you have the opportunity to be beyond good enough.

You don't need extra time taken out of your day to do this, you just need bring more awareness to what being you means, and your daily life will gladly show it to you if you ask to see it.
