Aerie Vs. Spanx Faux Leather Leggings

I have to say... I absolutely love both!

If you're on the fence and don't want to spend the money on the Spanx, get the Aerie ones. They go on sale all the time and I recommend purchasing them then. I got mine for $52.00 CAD.

Below I am going to breakdown all of the differences between them and why I think they are both worth it.

Aerie's fit SO WELL (photos below), feels like I am being hugged in, and the crossover cut is beautiful. These are easier to put on and take off as well.

The design is really nice, and I like that the crackle design is similar to the Spanx in that it makes them look more like a matte faux leather than patent or glossy. I will say that I slightly prefer the Spanx (photos below) design because it is finer and less obvious, however they are pretty similar.

Both can be machine washed, but both should not be put in the dryer.

The two biggest differences between the pairs (for me) are that the Spanx are Spanx so they are actually shape-wear, unlike Aerie's leggings, they are designed to suck you and smooth out any area they cover, which they do very well (however that isn't why I bought them, I bought them because I LOVE the design and versatility I have with styling them.).

If this is something you want and like in your clothes, the Spanx do a better job. This is also what causes them to be harder to put on and take off, but it's also why I barely, if ever find myself pulling them up. Because of this I do think they warrant their $128.00 CAD price tag. I highly recommend purchasing these on sale too, they are almost always part of Nordstrom's Anniversary Sale.

The second biggest difference is the inseam. There is a visible inseam along the crotch of the Aerie pair, where there is no visible inseam on the Spanx pair, and I personally think this makes the Spanx pair look nicer, and preferable to wear as professional pants. The inseam on the legs of the Spanx pair is cleaner looking too.

Spanx's faux leather leggings also feel like they are hugging you in, but they also have a more compressing feeling, which in my opinion makes them not quite as comfortable as the Aerie ones.

Ultimately they are very similar in my opinion and depending on what you want them for (work vs. going out) and how much you want to spend, I think they are both excellent options. I love wearing both pairs whether it's to run errands, go out, or work!

(Below: Spanx are the first pair on the left, and Aerie is the second pair on the right)

My Spanx have held up extremely well over the past couple of years, so I will definitely be giving an update on the longevity of the Aerie pair. I find Aerie's quality to be great, so I am looking forward to how well these maintain their look and shape with me wearing them all of time.

Faux leather leggings were once a risky piece for me to try and incorporate into my closet. Now they are a staple I wear all the time, and cannot see my wardrobe without. If you've been thinking about trying a pair but feeling resistant to trying something new, this is your sign to try them out!
