2022 Winter Outfit Ideas

Interesting little fact about what all of these photos have in common: I layered the same neutral mock neck top into every single outfit! Let me know if you can spot it in each outfit!

Let's dive right in to how you can re-create these outfits to match your own personal style.

I will break down each piece that is involved so that you will know exactly what to search for if you've been looking for something like it, or if you see something you love, and want to learn how to style it! I will also be sharing why I picked each item. If you love it as much as I do I have also linked similar options for you to each picture you just have to click them.

This sweater dress is quickly becoming my favourite this winter.

(Side note: this is the first sweater dress I've ever owned)

I picked it because I loved the knit, style, and colour. I saw it on American Eagle Outfitters where they like to layer everything and immediately loved the idea of how it would look over my Aritzia mock neck long sleeve, and the idea of being even more warm was a plus.

American Eagle styled their model that was wearing this dress in these boots and I don't have anything with shearling on it for shoes so I was pretty excited to purchase a pair to try (and I love them)! I love having cute socks pop out of boots so I knew that I would be styling this dress this way too.

I chose a patchwork Coach crossbody that my mom gave me a few years ago to go with it to add some fun design and give the outfit more detail.

  • If you want to re-create this look all you need is a sweater dress, a long sleeve top that you can layer underneath, either with a mock neck or turtle neck, and sleeves that can peek out of the dresses sleeves for a more layered look. For shoes grab a pair of booties that come up past your ankle and your favourite pair of socks peeking out of them. Then pick your favourite bag to match!

Make it yours by wearing pieces you love together, they could be completely different colours than mine or you may even want to simplify the look and skip the layers. Make it work for you.

This coat is the ever popular Abercrombie and Fitch Wool Blend Dad coat that retails almost every winter in their store for $260 Canadian... I got it at Winners for $50. The point of that little story is to keep an open mind while shopping you would be surprised at the amazing things you can find. At the time I didn't even know about this coat being an annual favourite at A&F. Another thing I want to point out is I didn't sift through a mess of clothes to find this. I saw the sleeve on the rack between puffer coats and my brain immediately told me to check it out. I pulled it off the rack and it was the exact camel coat I had been looking for, and it just happened to be the A&F dad coat (at the time I didn't really care what the brand was either). I purchased it because the cut and colour are perfect (to me) and I knew I could wear it with so many things in my wardrobe. It is feminine and chic and that is what I love about it.

The jeans are another story. They are also from A&F, they are their currently infamous "curve-love" 90's straight leg jeans but these ones are actually a "low-rise". I have low-rise in quotations because to me they hit right at my belly button which in my opinion is mid-rise.

I prefer mid-rise over high-rise and low-rise. Everyone has been raving about the high-rise, but I don't like high-rise jeans so when I went to check them out on their website and saw the low-rise came up to the models belly button I knew I wanted to try them! I absolutely love the way they look, and how they feel. They look amazing with a pair of booties.

To finish off the look I added a brown belt and one of my all time favourite bags, my black Kate Spade crossbody. This bag has been in my life for over 6 years now. I love it just as much, if not even more now than when I first received it as a gift. I would have easily spent the $300 on it because I wear it so much!

Style tip: An investment item is easy to decide on once you know your style and the kind of woman you want to be because you know whether or not you will wear it over and over again. Expensive clothes feel scary when we don't know how long we will like it for.

  • To re-create this outfit all you need is a long sleeve mock neck, straight leg jeans, a belt, a long line wool or blend jacket, booties, and a crossbody. Remember they can be in any colour you desire and the jeans don't have to be ripped and can be any rise. Make the outfit formula work for you and what you have or what you want.

I had been wanting to try a shacket for a while, I was just waiting to find one in a colour-way I loved. As soon as I saw this one on Dynamite I knew it was the one. I love the contrast in the colours the most. I choose faux leather leggings because they are my favourite style of legging to wear, and paired it with the same mock neck long sleeve top. I chose to incorporate this top into every look to push my creativity. I added a necklace for an even more layered look. Finally, I chose a crossbody bag because I love wearing them with winter coats. They cut down and across your body, which I find very flattering.

  • To re-create this outfit you'll need a plaid long line shacket, faux leather leggings, riding or knee high boots, a crossbody bag, a pendant necklace, and a long sleeve mock neck.

THIS COAT!! I have had this coat for 6+ years now. I have talked about it before on social media and you can even scroll way back and spot me in it. The colour, the belt, and the tulip cut are beautiful. I have put this coat on more times than I can count, and it is an example of the kind of longevity and beauty I look for in clothes when I am shopping. So it is pretty easy for me to want to wear it. This jacket is incredibly versatile, I love wearing it with leggings and boots like you see here, or with jeans too. I wore the mock-neck long sleeve underneath this because I love the way the little bit of light beige is popping out.

  • To re-create this look you'll need leggings, a mock neck or turtle neck long sleeve, knee high or riding boots, a crossbody bag, and a belted soft shell jacket.

I remember looking for a winter parka for a while, and at first I really didn't want it to be a puffer style jacket (this was a few years ago before puffers were becoming really trendy). However, I couldn't seem to find anything I liked and decided I would consider any style of winter jacket.

I went shopping at Nordstrom shortly after during their anniversary sale and purchased this beautiful cream coloured parka that is beyond warm! I definitely have a thing for beautiful colours, I might not be able to tell if I will like something on me right away, but I am willing to try anything on when I love the colour. This jacket has proven to be so amazing throughout the winter that I just went back this year and purchased it in black!

P.S. Want to know how to know if a product is not a trend and is or could become a classic? If you see a brand or brands re-produce it year after year with very minor alterations in design, that's how you'll know. You'll notice the product always has the same name. Examples of this are this North Face Metropolis Parka, Spanx faux leather leggings, Lululemon align leggings, Sorel Tivoli boots, the Burberry Trench Coat, etc.

I am wearing the Sorel Tivoli boots because they are so warm and cute for the extremely cold winters we experience here. I am also wearing my favourite leggings the ultra comfy Lululemon Aligns. If you've been around me for a while you'll know that I love wearing cozy socks too, and having them pop out of my boots. I still have my long sleeve mock-neck layered into the outfit too with a classic black hoodie.

  • To re-create this look you'll need cozy socks, winter boots, leggings, a hoodie, mock neck or turtle neck long sleeve layered underneath, a toque, and a long line puffer/parka.

I hope this inspires you to try to create looks with many of these pieces you no doubt already own in your closet or have similar options of. If you struggle with how to style some of the pieces in your wardrobe see if you can match one of the pieces you are struggling with to these outfits and then re-create any of these looks to match your style. If you do try any of these outfits, I'd love to know or even better see how it turned out for you! So always feel free to DM me on Instagram @personalstylecoach.
