Getting Dressed With Intention

5 benefits of dressing with intention whether you are staying in or going out.

I've said it before and I'll say it again!

You don't have to sacrifice comfort in order to be stylish, and you also don't have to sacrifice feeling stylish and good in your clothes for comfort. YOU CAN HAVE BOTH.

I personally have a collection of outfit after outfit on Instagram that will show you this, ranging from loungewear, to branding photoshoots. This is completely possible for you to have.

Most of us don't spend our days naked, whether we are staying in or going out. You still choose something to wear each day, whether you are doing it with intention or not.

Because you are choosing clothes to wear every day why not do it with intention? Especially if the way you currently get dressed has you feeling stuck or just blah.

Before we dive into the benefits of dressing with intention, I want to touch on what I mean by dressing with intention.

It means you are wearing something on purpose, whatever those reasons might mean or be for you, you are actively choosing to wear something and have it serve you in a way you truly want.

You are not on autopilot wearing something just because it's available, or because it enables you to stay in your comfort zone.

I'm not saying you can't wear comfortable clothes, or even clothes within your comfort zone, but if it is all you wear, and you feel stuck, dressing with intention will help.

Dressing with intention means choosing to wear what aligns with your style goals, and your vision of your personal style. If you haven't created those yet it simply means choosing clothes that align with you feeling your best and clothes that serve you best when it comes to your every day life and goals.

These 5 benefits of dressing with intention are some of my favourites!

1. Autonomy

When you are choosing what to wear on purpose you're creating personal autonomy. It means you take full responsibility for the choices you make with your clothes, and you understand that you are actually in complete control, which feels amazing.

When you take on the responsibility of getting to know yourself and your wardrobe better you are allowing yourself to take back all of your power. We created our current personal style, whether it was intentionally or not, only we can make changes to it.

Creating this personal autonomy also leads to sharpening your decision making skills around what to wear.

2. Confidence

When you are actively and consistently making decisions about what to wear, and what will support you best to wear. You are building your confidence.

This almost naturally happens because you are taking 5-10 minutes everyday and spending them on doing something beautiful and amazing for yourself. Dressing with intention is definitely a form of self-love and self-care.

You're creating a habit that is telling yourself you've got your back, there is immense love and trust for yourself when you consistently show up to dress with intention. That love and trust builds up and creates a knowing confidence within you.

This confidence also allows you to wear things, have them not work out the way you thought they would, and not go into a downward spiral, or make it mean anything bad about yourself.

3. Creativity

There will be days when we don't love what we wear, or it didn't work out the way we thought it would, or feel as good to wear as we thought it would.

However, this is how you expand your creativity.

The only way you can create a personal style you love is by being creative, and discovering what you love.

When you have the confidence to reach out of your comfort zone you start creating outfits you maybe thought you'd never be able to wear.

You get to be more playful with your clothes, curious, and willing to experiment, without fear of failure. Which makes getting dressed with intention incredibly fun!

4. Growth

The more you do this, the more you grow, your personal style, and as a person.

Dressing with intention leads you to discover and learn deeply about yourself and what matters to you when it comes to clothes.

It's the difference between feeling stuck, and expanding what you thought was possible with clothes.

The self-discovery alone, through dressing with intention is worth the 5-10 minutes every morning. It is not always easy, or comfortable, but it means you're choosing to live fully, and enjoy all that personal style has to offer (which is a lot) fully.

5. Presence

Lastly, spending the 5-10 minutes to get ready for your day on purpose, or align with your style goals means you are not borrowing time throughout the rest of your day dwelling on what you are wearing (aside from some positive self-admiration as you glance in the mirror you walk by).

It gives you the gift of presence. You are not pulling, fussing, or dwelling on your clothes. You are in the moment, as the fullest version of you that got ready for the day with autonomy, confidence, self-love, and creativity.

Don't kid yourself, this energy will shine through, regardless of what you end up wearing, as long as you chose it on purpose.

Best of all it means focusing on all of the other things you love, and radiating that energy onto those things.

Bonus, and possibly the most obvious, is dressing with intention leads to dressing better. This is because practising this simple thing changes who you are and your energy around it. You are focused on wearing what you actually want to and so you waste less time on the things that keep you stuck or lost.

Ask yourself what you can put on today that will make you feel amazing, what will bring out the amazing person you are best?
