Be Courageous

If you've ever felt like you couldn't wear something because you were worried you couldn't pull it off, that it would look ridiculous, it didn't follow the rules of fashion, or it didn't hide what it needed to, this ones for you!

I want to crush this one thing before the rest quickly.

There are no rules in fashion when you are breaking them intentionally. And even if you, let's say wore clashing metals, and didn't know that was a "faux pas", it still doesn't matter if you chose to wear it because you like wearing it, or love the item (if you choose to wear it with intention), because that energy comes through.

I like to imagine all these rules were created with the intention to help women "dress better", they are great when you want to learn how to wear something you don't know how to wear. However, you don't just stop there. The rules aren't law, and once you know how to wear something it gives you free rein to wear it however you want to.

You don't even have to get to know these rules in my opinion if you are dressing with intention. They are just there to help guide you when you feel lost or not yet confident with something you want to wear. (Check out the post from last week about dressing with intention, and the amazing benefits that go along with it).

Okay so, you're worried that you might look silly, like you don't know what you're doing, or that everyone will know you cannot pull that thing off.

Honestly you might. You might look silly or like you don't know what you are doing. I could say "who cares", but you probably do.

My advice on this is to live in that discomfort. How are you supposed to know how to wear something you've never worn before? How are you supposed to suddenly know how to wear it well?

Don't get me wrong, I know you are capable of creating outfits that will look amazing, even with new pieces, especially since there is plethora of outfit inspiration out there. However, that doesn't mean you know how to wear it for you yet, especially the first time you ever put it on. THE ONLY WAY you will figure that out is by wearing it.

So look silly, feel like you don't know what you are doing, but have the courage to try, have the courage to figure this thing out for yourself because when you die no one is going to be thinking of the choatic outfit your wore on Christmas one year. And if they are, you should be flattered, because you are clearly very memorable.

If you are unwilling to wear something you "wish" you could wear because it doesn't hide things that you believe should be hidden I highly recommend checking out the posts on body image and using clothes to hide.

You can also just ask yourself what's more important to you and why. Or ask yourself at what point would you let yourself wear it, and why do you have to wait to enjoy it?

The last thing I would recommend doing is wearing it for yourself. If you love it you don't have to show everyone, you can wearing it around the house, wear it for yourself, and enjoy it for yourself.

Being courageous with personal style means you no longer feel the need to hold yourself back from it. You're ready for all that it has to offer, and wearing all of the crazy, cool, fun stuff makes life so much more enjoyable than hiding from it or watching it from the sidelines.

Wear what you love and have the courage to seek it out.
